Here's a quick FL Studio tutorial/walkthrough video …

… that explains how to set up AutoTonic, so that it can be controlled directly from the piano roll (white keys = toggle sound, black keys = key switches).

Overview Routing:
Keyboard > DAW (Midi Track) > AutoTonic > DAW (VST)

… could have been solved also differently, of course …

… as with AutoTonic the 'limitation what you can do' is your creativity only (Many other approaches are feasible as well).
